Across Western Europe and North America sailing is seen as a distinguished social activity. Whether they bear adventurers, traders, Vikings, or those in search of leisure, sailboats are intrinsically linked to Western culture. The UBC Sailing Club is the largest club at the Jericho Sailing Centre, providing its members with lessons and access to equipment for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, and paddle boarding.
The St. Regis Administrative Team was delighted this year to see students take the first steps toward joining the UBC Sailing Club! Students had the opportunity to build the skills necessary to explore the beautiful Northwest coast with the support of the UBC Sailing Club. In addition to the kinesthetic skills taught in sailing -including knot-tying, the physics of wind and water currents, and economising space- students who join the UBC Sailing Club also learn about the history of this sport, the value of teamwork, and the ecology on BC’s south coast.
