The Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program between St. Regis and St. Mark’s offers 7 unique advantages to our students.
Since the Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program provides first-year university courses that are at the same level of difficulty as similar courses offered by major Canadian universities, students who succeed in these courses obtain “hard evidence” to demonstrate their academic skills and ability to survive in a stressful academic environment. In comparison to graduates from other high schools who only completed conventional high school courses, St. Regis students who overcame the challenge of the Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program have a significantly higher chance to be admitted by top-ranking universities.
Most Canadian universities require prospective students who have completed less than 4 years of consecutive studies in an English-speaking country to fulfill an additional English requirement. The additional English requirement is fulfilled using a satisfying grade on a standardized English proficiency exam such as TOFEL or IELTS.
St. Regis students who completed English 150 under the Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program will be exempt from the additional English requirement.
The Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program is recognized by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care, and therefore university credits completed under this program are given dual credits status. This means that students will receive both first-year university credits that are recognized by most Canadian and US universities, as well as relevant high school course credits.
For example, a student who completed Economics 101 will be given university credits for the course alongside relevant high school credits in economics.
The Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program integrates students into university classrooms, in contrast to AP or IB programs. Students can have a firsthand, early, and realistic experience of a university education with this program. The university courses offered through this program are the same as those offered at UBC and St. Mark’s College. Students will get applicable high school course credits at the completion of the course in addition to first-year university credits that are accepted by most US and Canadian universities.
The Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program is entirely taught in-person by university professors who teach at St. Mark’s College and UBC, in contrast to AP or IB programs. Students will gain insight into how professors at universities conduct their lectures.
Through the Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program, St. Regis students will be one step ahead when it comes to their knowledge about the content and difficulty of university courses. This will enable them to try out courses in areas that they have a potential interest in and to plan ahead for their future major.
Courses offered under the Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program are 100% transferable to most Canadian and US universities. This means that if a student has already completed 6 university credits in first-year English and math while in St. Regis, the student will have lesser credits to complete in university. Consequently, the student will also enter his/her selected major sooner and graduate from university ahead of time.
