Advance University Credit – Frequently Asked Questions

A wide range of first-year university courses are available under this program, including courses of major interest such as English, Math, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Psychology and Economics. The course offerings, however, may vary each semester based on the needs and interests of our students. For a course to be opened, a minimum quantity of students must be enrolled.

Courses offered under the Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program are specifically adjusted to tailor St. Regis’s annual academic calendar. The duration of each course is the equivalent of one St. Regis semester – semester one from September to January, and semester two from February to May.

Universities can identify the completion of an advance university credit from the student’s final transcript. Courses offered under the Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program will appear on a student’s official transcript with special “PSIX” designation. University admission officers will be able to clearly differentiate an advance university credit from a conventional high school credit.

To complete the credit transfer, a grade 12 St. Regis student with an accepted offer should directly contact St. Mark’s College to have his/her official transcript sent to the student’s future school.

No, the dual credit status will not impact the students negatively in any way. The Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program fully recognizes the difference between university and high school education. We know that university courses are much more demanding and challenging in terms of their level of difficulty. Therefore, when assigning the grade from an advance university credit course to a high school grade, St. Regis always takes the difficulty issue into account and applies a competitive scoring formula to ensure that the students are not disadvantaged in any way.

St. Regis students may begin to participate in the Running-Up Strategic Partnership Program starting in grade 11. While this means that grade 12 and grade 11 students are the primary participants of the program, selected grade 10 students demonstrating outstanding performance may also be invited to join under special permission.

Yes, any student is eligible to quit an advance university credit course halfway under conditions permitted by our school’s Advance University Credit Policy.

No, it will not. Universities do not calculate the grades acquired from an advance university credit course into a student’s overall GPA when high schools submit students’ official transcripts to universities. 

Advance university credit is viewed by universities as an exceptional challenge rather than a necessary necessity. Universities receive a student’s favourable option if they pass an advanced university credit course since they have concrete proof of the student’s aptitude and diligence. This data clearly indicates that, should they be admitted, the student will succeed as well.
