University Engagement

The Joint Curricula Development Program of our school is designed to help students bridge the gap between secondary education and the rigorous demands of university education. The goal we set with our students is not simply to graduate, but to realize their full potential at a world-class university.

To achieve this goal, we elicit the help of UBC professors as well as scholars from other renowned academic institutions to enhance the quality and depth of our main academic subjects by adopting reading materials and delivery methods used in current UBC courses. More specifically, the professors collaborate with our certified teachers in creating the curricula, methods of delivery, and learning objectives of our courses, as well as the tools to evaluate and reflect on the students’ progress.

At St. Regis, our main academic subjects reach beyond the realm of measurable outcomes and standardized testing. St. Regis students are taught research, communication, and critical thinking skills through inquiry and self-reflection. This allows them to measure their success qualitatively and quantitatively.

In terms of the method of knowledge delivery, the Joint Curricula Development Program adopts a wide range of approaches that foreshadow and learning style and expectations of university classrooms including, but not limited to, debate, public speaking, extended research projects, and study trips.

The Global Citizenship course, created by renowned academics and educators Dr. Geraldine Schwartz, the founder of Visioneers International Network, and Dr. Desmond Berghofer, the former Deputy Minister of Education of Alberta, is one exceptional example. Under the framework of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, our senior students can initiate and plan student-led volunteer projects to benefit their communities through the guidance of our teaching faculty and leaders of Visioneers International Network during the Global Citizenship course.

Finally, beyond the “conventional” panoply of courses available to BC high school students, our school is also recognized by the Ministry of Education and Child Care to offer Board Authority Authorized (BAA) courses that are both unique and which enhance our students’ academic and personal development. Our BAA courses, ranging from global citizenship to internship, encourage our students to explore the world beyond conventional academia and augment their university applications by cultivating excellent work ethics and coaching social networking skills.
