Home / UBC Continuing Education Programme (UBC-CEP)
UBC is one of the most competitive and highly ranked universities in the world (US News Ranking – 35, QS World Ranking – 45). As a result, a considerable proportion of first and second year UBC students are forced to withdraw. This phenomenon demonstrates the gap between high school learning outcomes and university expectations. This problem is even more pronounced among English language learners.
At St. Regis, we define academic success not only as admission into leading universities, but as the attainment of graduation diplomas from these universities. St. Regis provides support to our graduates at UBC through our UBC Continuing Education Programme (UBC-CEP), which supports students with course work, course planning, and personal stresses.
The UBC-CEP programme has yielded spectacular results. For three consecutive years, not one of our graduates was required to withdraw from UBC.
As a part of our St. Regis @ UBC Programme, the UBC-CEP elicits the support of over 25 popular academic divisions, including commerce, engineering, science, and the arts. UBC academic divisions directly supply our students with tutors from the top 10% of masters and PHD programmes. These tutors are experienced researchers and teaching assistants in the courses presently taken by our students. Compared to outside tutors, our UBC tutors have an intimate knowledge of the expectations of professors and are up to date on the most recent research, practises, and pedagogical methods.
The UBC-CEP organises and plans weekly tutoring sessions that help our students understand and retain their lectures, discussions, and readings. In addition, our tutors help students cultivate important skills vital to success in university. This includes independent research skills, essay composition, lab-report formats, SWOT analytical reports, and citation techniques. Examples of important questions that will be raised and answered include:
Aside from providing direct academic support to our students, the UBC-CEP helps students tailor their academic programmes to their interests, abilities, and career goals. This is central not only to our students’ success at UBC, but also to the question of whether they can maximise their learning experience.
Because universities and high schools operate very differently, students often have difficulty transitioning to their undergraduate degrees. Our UBC Degree Specialists begin working with our students immediately upon admission to St. Regis to help them safely navigate this change. Our UBC Degree Specialists connect with faculty advisors to design each student’s schedule, taking into consideration the student’s strengths and weaknesses, required credits, and personal aspirations. This ensures our students take the right courses with the professors best suited to their learning styles.
Our UBC Degree Specialists also help students access a wide array of opportunities and educational resources offered by different faculties and departments such as career nights, seminars, and club activities that augment the students’ development and curriculum vitae.
Finally, during their third and fourth years, the UBC-CEP tailors to students’ updated needs as they work toward graduation. Our programme connects students with resources inside and outside UBC to assist them in finding internship and practicum opportunities that serve as critical steps to employment or graduate school admission. Furthermore, our UBC Degree Specialists also assist students in navigating the complexities of major declarations, scholarship competitions, and applications to the UBC Go Global Programme.
